New reference standards and impurities Since the issue of our second newsletter in June 2007, updating our catalogue "Pharmaceutical Reference Substances and Impurities 2006 2007", 127 new reference standards and impurities have been released by the pharmacopoeias and by LGC Germany, our production site for impurity reference standards in Luckenwalde near Berlin. Reagents according to the European Pharmacopoeia produced by LGC Promochem The European Pharmacopoeia describes in chapter 2.2.2. Degree of coloration of liquids the preparation of three primary color solutions. These three solutions are now available ready-to-use from LGC Promochem. Further reagent products will follow soon. New labels for reference standards from the European Pharmacopoeia The EDQM is currently over-labelling all its reference standards vials with a secondary label. This new secondary label is useful for customs purposes as it can be peeled off. It can also be stuck onto your laboratory book to prove the use of the reference standard. All the required information to perform the tests described in the European Pharmacopoeia monographs are stated on the primary label, which is still accessable beneath the secondary label. New catalogue The next edition of our catalogue for pharmaceutical reference substances and impurities will be available in December 2007. There are a number of benefits in using opioids where joint pain is unresponsive to acetaminophen or NSAIDs COX-2 inhibitors. At times, there are relative or absolute contraindications to the use of these medications; for example, acetaminophen in a patient with active hepatitis. The gastrointestinal side effects of opioids are well known, and a stimulant laxative recommendation should accompany each prescription at the initiation of therapy. Often, opioids may only provide a reduction in pain of 15% to 20% recommendation strength B ; .27 Depending on the initial starting dose, it may be necessary to titrate the opioid dose upward. Many times the dose of opioid needed may be lower when opioids are combined with acetaminophen or NSAIDS. There is no dose ceiling on pure opioids, but there is a defined ceiling on the dosing of products combined with acetaminophen or NSAIDS based on the dose of the nonopioid medication.
The Finnish Council of State granted additional funding to the VIRKE project for the period from 2006 to 2008.
