There are dozens of parameters we might consider as points of analysis for these companies, as well as any number of time intervals. To make the analysis more relevant, we will look at the time period of 2001 to 2005. This 5-year window should provide sufficient time to let a company's market performance respond to its corporate development actions. The 2001 and 2005 markets are also similar enough, at least in terms of the market index prices, to rule out any major market swing effect. So, with a defined period, we need to consider the parameters of performance that might impact market capitalization. Market capitalization as used in this article refers to average capitalization for any year as determined by averaging the yearly high and low, and multiplying by the shares outstanding at year's end. This figure may not be the closing value for the year, but reasonably captures the ups and downs of the company in a single figure. It's interesting to note that most of the companies were on a roller coaster in

After the definition of the reaction scheme, the balance equations of the model have to be formulated. As already discussed in Section 3.4.1, all balances correspond to an small part of the fundamental channel volume, of length z. A mass balance for each chemical species as well as a heat balance are needed. Below, we first proceed with the balances for the gaseous phase species, which are defined in an elementary volume A x ; dx the soot layer. The mass balances for solid phase species follow, which are defined in respect to the total layer thickness. The same applies for the heat balance. This set of balances, together with a set of the respective boundary conditions, complete the definition of the model. O2 and NO2 balances We begin forming the mass balance equation for oxygen for a volume element of soot A x ; dx, as discussed in Section 3.4.1 above. The

Various pulmonary disorders have been reported as extraintestinal manifestations of ulcerative colitis. These include pulmonary vasculitis, obliterative bronchiolitis, and a well documented association with chronic bronchial suppuration and bronchiectasis.24 These tend to progress independently of colonic disease activity and onset years after colectomy is not uncommon.5 Pulmonary complications associated with sulphasalazine therapy include hypersensitivity pneumonitis, fibrosing alveolitis, and bronchiolitis obliterans.68 These conditions develop within months of starting treatment. There have been no previous reports of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in association with inflammatory bowel disease. A common physiological process linking ulcerative colitis and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is difficult to substantiate. However this does not preclude an association, as it is similarly difficult to find evidence explaining the association with other pulmonary disorders. Interestingly our patient had a positive p-ANCA titre and a reported series suggests that patients with ulcerative colitis and bronchiectasis have an increased frequency of autoantibodies.4 It was proposed that a T-lymphocyte associated defect may lead to development of antibodies to a range of tissue antigens and destruction of various mucosal surfaces. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis may be a rare association of ulcerative colitis and should be considered as a potential diagnosis in patients who fulfill the diagnostic criteria and buspirone.

Hytrast gives an interpretive third dimension to bronchograms by combining higher radiopacity with a remarkably uniform adherence to mucosa. This double contrast effect-air plus medium -clearly traces the mucosa of every bronchial segment for more accurate and dependable diagnosis of bronchial lesions. Hytrast offers an unusual degree of contrast by virtue of its high iodine content 50% w v of combined iodine in the form of two new iodine-bearing compounds ; , a concentration nearly twice that of propyliodone. Hytrast is an aqueous suspension. In addition to providing sharper, clearer images of bronchial segments, Hytrast is miscible with bronchial secretions, yet its optimal viscosity gives the operator control of flow. Hytrast is so adherent to bronchial mucosa that rarely does coughing produce alveolarization. Hytrast is eliminated from the lungs by postural drainage and absorption. Lung fields are normally clear to x-ray examination in 2 to days. Hytrast appears to be slightly more irritating to bronchial mucosa than oily media, but less so than other previously used aqueous preparations. A transient temperature elevation has been observed particularly where alveolarization inadvertently occurs and elimination is delayed. Consult the product brochure for complete information on administration, side effects, contraindications, and precautions. Hytrast is supplied in 25 ml. vials containing 20 ml. sterile aqueous suspension: 50% w v of combined iodine as a mixture of N 2, 3-propyldiol ; -3, 5 diiodopyridone -4 and 3, 5 diiodopyridone -4 and butorphanol.
SYSTEMIC IMMUNE EFFECTS OF AN INHALANT GLUCOCORTICOID IN CATS. CR Reinero, 1 L Brownlee, 2 B Seguin, 2 K Decile, 2 LJ Gershwin2 . 1University of Missouri, Columbia 2University of California, Davis. Therapy of feline bronchial disease has traditionally relied on oral or injectable glucocorticoids GC however, not all cats tolerate high levels of GC. Delivery of metered dose inhalant steroids in human asthmatics maximizes local efficacy and minimizes systemic bioavailability. The current study evaluated systemic immune effects of inhaled flunisolide IFP; 250mcg puff ; versus oral prednisone at high doses 10 mg day ; and placebo an empty metered dose inhalant ; . We hypothesized that IFP would have minimal systemic effects on a variety of immunologic parameters in healthy pet cats. A randomized crossover design was used. Six cats received each treatment for two weeks followed by a one month washout. Immune effects were determined using flow cytometry to evaluate percentages of peripheral lymphocyte classes pan T cell marker, CD4 + T cell marker, CD8 + T cell marker, and pan B cell marker ; , lymphocyte proliferation assays using mitogenic stimulation in vitro, serum total.

E2889 Inhalation of fluticasone propionate spray compared with theophilline as primary treatment for chronic mild to moderate asthma Dimitar Karkinski, Zoran Arsovski, Margarita Nikolau, Dejan Dokic. Research Department, Clinic of Pulmonology and Allergology, Skopje, Macedonia Inhalated corticosteriides and oral theophilline are effective treatment for moderate asthma. The aim of this study was to compare benefits and adverse reaction of theophilline and aerosol fluticasone spray. Methods: We included 40 patients with mild to moderate asthma. 20 of them received fluticasone propionate aerosol spray 125 mg two times per day during one year. The second group of 20 patients received theophilline twice per day in doses for optimum control of disease. The main outcome measure was daily dairy of symptoms and peak flow rates, supplemental bronchodilatator use hospital visits and absence from work, pyrometer measurements, bronchial provocation histamine tests. Results: Both treatment strategies reduced symptoms and reduced absence from work and emergency treatment for asthma. Both had nearly normal pulmonary function. Fluticason was significantly more effective in reducing symptoms, supplemental bronchodilatators and systemic corticosteroids doses. Theophillin caused more headache, insomnia, gastrointestinal distress and more patients had discontinued treatment because of side effects. Fluticasone caused more hoarsens. The risk benefit profiles of these agents suggest that inhaled corticosteroides may be preferred agent and campral.
In chronic and debilitated conditions of the mucous membrane with a tendency to diarrhoea it is just the agent wanted. The flowers are a mild and valuable stimulating tonic, not astringent like the bark. They are soothing and sustaining to the nervous system and to the circulation especially, when given in hot infusion, when they are also somewhat diaphoretic. The berries are also a pleasant mild bitter tonic similar to the flowers. These flowers and berries possess a mildness and effectiveness that make them a favourite for convalescence wherever a mild tonic is needed. Cornin is a better antiperiodic than any other preparation of this agent. CORNUS SERICEA. Red Osier. American. The bark is a stimulating astringent. It is useful in stopping hemorrhages whether from the nose, lungs, uterus or bowels. In parturition where there is a hemorrhagic tendency, and where the pains are inefficient, and the parts lax, this agent will be very valuable. It will anticipate flooding, increase pains and add general vigour to the system. Dr. F. G. Reener advises the use by injection of the following for the cure of uterine ulcers. It also checks the vomiting incident to pregnancy. Cornus Ser. Viburnum Prunif. aa. equal parts. COTO AND PARA-COTO BARK. These are two distinct barks brought from Bolivia under the name of coto- bark. They are now distinguished as above. In physical appearance these two barks are strikingly different, but their therapeutical properties are very similar. The bark is a gently stimulating, tonic astringent. Its influence is especially felt by the alvine mucous membrane, and is very useful in dysentery, diarrhoea and cholera infantum. In hot infusion of zingiber it is excellent in the exhaustive discharges of cholera morbus and to quiet the pain incident thereto. With xanthoxylum, capsicum and hydrastis it will be found very valuable in cholera. Coto tones the digestive tract and is especially valuable in all lax conditions of the mucous membrane. It influences a good flow of blood toward the surface. It is very successful in the treatment of sore and spongy gums, toothache, sore mouth, sweating of the feet and the night sweats incident to phthisis. It may be used locally upon ulcers and old sores, and is valuable used as an injection to the vagina in case of excessive discharges whether leucorrheal or from ulceration. In nasal, gastric, intestinal and bronchial catarrh it will be found very valuable in cases where the discharges are in excess. In typhoid fever and in excessive discharges from the bowels in phthisis this is a superior agent. F. E. Para-Coto Cort. Tr. Cardamom Comp. aa. dr. i Acacia Mucilago dr. iii Syr. This agent has yet to come into its own as a cardiac remedy. One writer freely states that in his opinion Crataegus is superior to any other of the well known and tried remedies at present in use in the treatment of heart disease because it seems to cure while the other remedies are only palliative at, best.

Asthma is an underestimated respiratory disease in feline medicine. Thoracic radiography is considered as a helpful complementary examination in diagnosis of feline asthma. The aim of this study was to evaluate, using an experimental model of feline asthma, to which extent thoracic radiography might contribute to assess the severity of the disease. Material and Methods: Eighteen healthy cats and 12 cats sensitised and exposed to Ascaris suum AS ; allergens were investigated on several occasions at the age of 7 to months by thoracic radiography, bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage BAL ; in order to determine the impact of age and allergen exposures on radiographic results and to relate these results to bronchoscopic findings and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cytology. Radiographic scores ranging from 0 to 3 evaluating alveolar, bronchial and interstitial pattern were established at several occasions in healthy cats and before and after allergen AS ; challenges in sensitised cats. Bronchoscopy was performed under anaesthesia, a bronchoscopic score ranging from 0 to 3 taking into account mucosal aspect, amount of mucus and bronchial reactivity was established and BAL fluid was sampled. BAL fluid was analysed cytologically. Statistical analysis was performed using a mixed model and Spearman correlation tests. Results: A significant age-related increase of radiographic score was detected in healthy cats total score at 7 months: 1.16 0.78; total score at 30 months: 2.35 1.02, p 0.05 ; . Within 24 hours after allergen exposure, AS challenge induced a significant increase of the total score 2.9 0.8 at pre-challenge versus 3.9 1.1 at post-challenge, p 0.05 ; , which was mainly due to an increase of the interstitial score. Bronchoscopic score significantly increased after AS challenge 0.7 1.2 at pre-challenge versus 2.1 0.8 at post-challenge, p 0.05 ; and BAL cytology revealed a significant increase of eosinophil 3 2 % at prechallenge versus 30 17 % at post-challenge, p 0.05 ; and neutrophil percentage 9 6 % at pre-challenge versus 25 15 % at post-challenge, p 0.05 ; . Four AS challenges performed at 2-month intervals did induce similar changes of the radiographic and bronchoscopic scores and of BAL fluid cytology. Positive and significant correlations were found between radiographic and bronchoscopic scores as well as between BAL fluid eosinophil percentage and radiographic scores. Conclusion: This investigation has shown that 1 ; the radiographic score was positively and significantly correlated with animals' age; 2 ; allergen exposure induced a significant increase of the radiographic score; 3 ; four consecutive allergen exposures did not induce irreversible changes of the radiographic score; and 4 ; the radiographic score was positively and significantly correlated with the bronchoscopy score and eosinophil percentage of BAL fluid. In conclusion, these experimental results suggest that thoracic radiography is a sensitive complementary examination for diagnosis of feline asthma and camptosar.
